Video premiere: Landon Marcus, ‘Love Shield’

Landon Marcus has graduated from house parties to a stylish lounge in the video for his new song “Love Shield.” When we met Marcus last October, the L.A.-based singer, songwriter and theatrical force was out of his mind, thanks to “The Drugs,” the song itself a raging rocker that screamed neurosis with every note. In director Caiti Hawkins’ slick video for “Love Shield” (filmed at the Speakeasy at the Townhouse in Venice), Marcus’ only intoxicant is his music, which seems to be enough to affect the lovely protagonist, played by Madeleine Hamer. As much as the video, the song is a revelation itself – a 2 1/2-minute slice of calypso-infused pop that will appear on Marcus’ forthcoming EP “The Time Spy.” He jokingly calls this particular strain of music “glamba,” and groan if you will, but twice through the video and it’ll be tough to get the singer’s falsetto out of your head.
