Ears Wide Open: Hologram

L.A.-based singer-songwriter Maxime Sokolinski – who’s played in his big sister Soko’s band, as well as with Daniel Johnston, Adanowsky and L.A.’s Sweaters – stepped out of the shadows in 2011 when he released a little bedroom pop gem, “Feels Like,” anonymously, to YouTube. The 25-year-old has spent recent months back in his native France, where this past winter he met 20-year-old singer Clara Luciana. A songwriting tête-à-tête ensued, and Hologram was born. The duo has an EP (written, recorded and produced in Sokolinski’s living room) in the works, and their first song “Absolute Zero” is a soaring but thematically dark slice of boy/girl synth-pop. Because when you’re dancing along to the apocalypse, it’s nice to have a partner.
