South of France

Jeff Cormack, Kelly Lueke and Matt Jeffries call themselves South of France but the garage-pop band is actually from Denver, Colorado. They aren’t too serious of Francophiles to have sing their debut record “Another Boring Sunrise” entirely in French, but there is that surf-rock ditty “Choix” where they repeat “Je ne comprends pas” a lot. Between Cormack’s inclination for retro guitar-pop and Lueke’s sweet vocals, South of France is indeed a pop band at the core with strong tracks like “Shadows,” “When I Came To” and “Ghost Driver,” but the trio’s gem and most surprising track is “The Midwest,” where they turn up the reverb. “Another Boring Sunrise,” the follow-up to their “Kings” EP, is out now via Play Plus Record.
