Like so many gifted DJs, Brooklyn-based Jeremy Malvin has both a background rooted in percussion, as well as a healthy synth obsession. Malvin records and performs under the moniker Chrome Sparks, creating blissed-out electronica ranging in demeanors from celebratory (“Luna Luxor”) to comatose (“Marijuana”). His recently released “Sparks” EP treads on terrain touched by Teen Daze, Millionyoung, and Korallreven, but with an avant flair, and a reluctance to stick to anything formulaic. Each of the EP’s six  tracks share a consistent warmth, as well as an uplifting hopefulness even when feeling vulnerable (“Gates to Heaven”) or wounded (“Send The Pain On”). A pair of playful, outwardly confident tracks (“Comic Claps of Love”  and “Your Planet”) bring balance to a captivating EP that also feels very personal, a difficult task when working in electronica. The  Chrome Sparks live experience has many different incarnations, ranging from a one man show to an eight-piece band.
