‣ Joseph Arthur visits the Troubadour behind his ambitious new album “The Ballad of Boogie Christ,” a psych-soul record with horns, back-up singers and roots, conceptually, in David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust character. Ben Haper and Juliette Lewis are expected to play in Arhthur’s band tonight. Above, the slideshow video for “All the Old Heroes.”
‣ The Vans Warped Tour returns to the Fairplex in Pomona for a day of music that starts at 11 a.m., featuring bands such as Motion City Soundtrack, Black Veil Brides, Sleeping With Sirens, Reel Big Fish, Beware of Darkness, the Aquabats, the Summer Set and Crown the Empire. New to the tour this year: a Spotify-sponsored stage with EDM and hip-hop artists like Wallpaper, Outtasight and Crizzly. It’s the first of two days at the Fairplex; Warped is back on Friday.
‣ Omaha indie-poppers Tilly & the Wall play the Echoplex, supported by Rainbow Arabia, Batwings Catwings and Jeffery Jerusalem.
‣ Local quartet Holy Folk [see “Jump the Rails”] celebrates this week’s release of its debut album “Motioning” with a show at El Cid, with Geronimo Getty and the World Record opening.
‣ And New York City’s the Dig [see our recent post] plays the Bootleg Bar, supported by FIM, Orange Umbrella and Oh Boy Les Mecs.
