Bosnian Rainbows are the rare all-star group that sounds like all-stars in their own right, instead of hints of their members’ previous projects. Their self-titled debut, which comes out next week via Sargent House, is a taut, vicious affair that draws from post-punk, hardcore and dark electro to sound like some sort of lost ’80s classic. At the fore is punk goddess Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes, but Bosnian Rainbows aren’t just her show. The arrangements are punctuated by gnarly licks from ex-Mars Volta shredder Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (whose restraint is admirable) and ferocious rhythms from synth player Niccie Kasper and drummer Deantoni Parks. The results can sound experimental (“I Cry for You”) or anthemic (“Morning Sickness”). It’s a long player in the truest sense.
