Ears Wide Open: Washing Machines

Young LA. quintet Washing Machines are so rough around the edges you’re not sure where the edges are. Not that that’s a bad thing at all. The seven tracks on their debut EP, released in April, are a spin cycle of caustic guitars, angsty screams and melody, all adding up to ferocious energy that, while not yet harnessed, propels a lot of bands in the L.A. underground. For the record, Washing Machines are Lucas Parvaz, Le’lani Lancaster, Cole Hoover, Trevor Doss and Chris Hansen, and if you ever imagined standing in a hallway between the practice spaces of Sonic Youth and Nirvana, this is what it’d sound like.
