Actress-singer-songwriter Soko possesses a certain mystique that she translates into lo-fi, highly relatable narratives that belie her celebrity in her native France as a movie performer. Her January release for Community Music (Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Alex Ebert, Aaron Embry) was titled “I Thought I Was an Alien,” 15 songs that cast the chanteuse as a lovelorn, world-weary social outcast and brimmed with the eclecticism to make them believable. Her latest video is a typically DIY affair that pairs a new song, “Monster Love,” with the album track “I Just Want to Make It New With You” in touching fashion. The video features Morgan Krantz Hannah Fraser and the songstress herself, but it’s most notable for the new song, a duet with Ariel Pink. (They chat about the collaboration here.) “Monster Love” will appear on Soko’s forthcoming album “My Dreams Dictate My Reality.” It’s rather gorgeous.
