It isn’t surprising to hear a song titled “Majik Mtn.” from Thee Rain Cats considering the rock quartet is based in the outskirts of Disneyland. What’s intriguing is that Caleb Palomo, Miguel Gomez, Nelson Rodriguez and Patrick Palomo have coined their sound as “technicolor rock.” Now the act where bands come up with a new name for its sound isn’t new; musicians do it all the time to be easily remembered. However, it seems that Thee Rain Cats have aptly described their sound with this term. A little bit of psychedelia infused with a bit of electro-pop and a foundation of rock seems to work for these guys, and others have noticed their rainbow-tinted soundscape too. After Burger Records hopped on the TRC train, the band released a self-titled EP on tape last year with psych jams like “Kenyah” and guitar-pop tracks like “Majik Mtn” that are simply toe-tapping good. Oh, and don’t fret if you no longer own a tape player these days; the EP is also available on Bandcamp.
