This video doesn’t exactly qualify for a NSFW label, but watch the video at your own risk if you have either just eaten lunch or if you are not a fan of bugs … really big bugs. Yes, Majical Cloudz‘s video for “Bugs Don’t Buzz” is a bit sickening if you can’t get the past the abstract and non-human quality of it, but the clip co-directed by the fashion-focused Gordon Von Steiner is also beautifully minimal in a similar fashion to the compositions of Montreal-based duo comprised of Devon Welsh and Matthew Otto are. “Impersonator,” Majical Cloudz’s sophomore effort and debut on Matador – and recently nominated for the Polaris Prize – slowly spills out melancholic beauty as Welsh sings with angst and Otto’s synth programming pulses underneath. Working glacial melodies in between the beats, Majical Cloudz makes looking past their silly spelling worth it.
