No, California Wives aren’t from California and as you can see, there are no married women in the group. The Chicago-based quartet of Jayson Kramer, Graham Masell, Adam Schneider and Joe O’Connor does, however, marry new wave and indie rock in a glowing manner. Their debut LP “Art History” is chock-full of nice, warm pop-rock hits such as “Blood Red Youth,” in which guitars and synths duel each other in between skyrocketing choruses. Other tracks, such as “Light Year” and “Purple,” feature gnarly guitar riffs and playful bass lines. “Art History,” which was produced by Claudius Mittendorfer (Interpol, Neon Indian, Wild Nothing), is out now via Vagrant.
