Thirteen years ago, the alternative hip-hop group Deltron 3030, composed of rapper Del The Funky Homosapien, producer Dan “The Automator” Nakamura and DJ/turntablist Kid Koala, released their self-titled debut, a forward-thinking hip-hopera concept album set in the dystopian future of 3030 as the hero Deltron Zero rebels against the evil suppression of the new corporate order. In the years since, each of its members have had their hands in a variety of projects, including Handsome Boy Modeling School and Gorillaz, but a follow-up album has yet to surface ”¦ until now. On Oct. 1, Bulk Recordings will release their long-awaited sophomore album “Deltron 3030: Event II.” The first single to emerge is “City Rising From The Ashes,” which will title a three-song EP due out next month in advance of the album’s release. It’s classic Deltron – an avant garde, funky vibe that sounds futuristic yet retro-tinged, a harmonious medley of kick-snares, scratches, soul and sci-fi storytelling. “Event II” also features the most eclectic roster of guests in recent memory – Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Cross, Amber Tamblyn, Zach De La Rocha, the Lonely Island, Damon Albarn, Mike Patton, and Jamie Cullum. Whoa. For someone who bought their debut in 2000 and obsessed over its tracks “Things You Can Do” and “Mastermind,” it’s great to know they’re back ”¦ to the future.
