Tonight’s L.A. Buzz Bands Show on KCSN will salute where I am right now – at least as a seeker of good new SoCal music. That means I will premiere a killer song from the forthcoming new album by LA Font, right at the top of the show. But tonight’s hour will also salute where was 10 years ago this week, y’know, as a seeker of good new SoCal music. That means I’ve dug into my Times archives and realized that one decade ago this week I wrote about Fonda, who went on hiatus for a while before coming back strong in 2011. Those songs will bookend the show. In between, I will have music from the Happy Hollows, Superhumanoids, Incan Abraham, Army Navy, Tennis System and the Open Feel, among others. Oh, and in my surprise moment of the week, I’ll have a sweet cover song by Jason LaRocca (of the Briggs), who’s had some fun with Neutral Milk Hotel. Join me for the second week in my new time slot – 9 p.m. – on 88.5 FM (streaming at KCSN.org). After the jump, the playlist (subject to slight tweaking):
LA Font, “Diving Man”
The Happy Hollows, “Endless”
Jason LaRocca, “King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 7”
Army Navy, “Crushed Like the Car”
Eagles of Death Metal, “Wannabe in L.A.”
Superhumanoids, “Too Young for Love”
The Postal Service, “Nothing Better (Styrofoam remix)”
Incan Abraham, “Tuolumne”
The Bronx, “Youth Wasted”
Tennis System, “Such a Drag”
A House for Lions, “Ordinary Life”
Blake Hazard, “Weekends Are for Amateurs”
Hobart W Fink, “Hundred Dollar Bill”
The Open Feel, “Pushing Back”
Fonda, “Loving You Made Me Sad”
