Download: Saint Motel, ‘My Type’

Something about the singles from L.A. quartet Saint Motel makes us want to get all dolled up and then go trash that finery at an all-night club. Their 2012 album “Voyeur” seesawed between a modern take on classic rock and retro-inspired spins on disco, especially the single “Benny Goodman.” In the vein of the latter comes the new single “My Type,” the first step toward a follow-up album from the foursome of A/J Jackson, Aaron Sharp, Greg Erwin and Dax. “My Type” recalls the disco age before synths and keyboards took over; amid a barrage of brass (including a mellophone), the four-on-floor beat propels the song to its inevitable shout-along chorus. Replace the horns with guitar riffs and “My Type” could be a song from any number of U.K. post-punk revivalists from last decade. Which is not a bad type at all.
