Some nights, you just wanna recommend everything …
‣ If you’re an indie-rock fan and you’ve been wondering about the FIGat7th Downtown Festival, tonight’s your night – PAPA, NO and LA Font team up for a show on the plaza at the downtown L.A. retail center.
‣ It’s a blast at the beach as Modest Mouse and Matt Costa play at the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. The music starts at 4 p.m.
‣ Peter Murphy celebrates 35 years of Bauhaus at the Fonda Theatre, supported by Ours, Eyes On Film and Richard Thorne.
‣ Rancid at the Hollywood Palladium? Sounds good to me.
‣ Oh, and Weezer plays the Pacific Amphitheatre in O.C.
‣ Courtney Love plays the Canyon Club. See what her tour setlist has been like here.
‣ Hockey skates into the El Rey Theatre behind its new album “Wyeth IS,” and they’re joined by Saint Motel [catch their new single?] and Swimm.
‣ Vancouver quartet the Shilohs have a good thing going. Check out “Get Ready Now” on Soundcloud, or checkout their video for “English Roads,” above. They’re on tour with Speedy Ortiz [see our post last week], and they visit the Bootleg Bar supported by local standouts Tashaki Miyaki.
‣ Great local pairing at the Echo, where Tijuana Panthers and GRMLN play, along with the Abigails.
‣ Run River North performs at the Ford Amphitheatre as part of Kollaboration Los Angeles.
‣ Ruthann Friedman, Amy Blaschke, Matt Cartsonis, Paul Chesne and many more do the “Songs of Hank Williams” at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum.
‣ And the 16th annual International Pop Overthrow kicks off tonight. The power-pop-oriented festival will hopscotch between venues for the next 10 days, and tonight’s opener at Molly Malone’s features Steve Barton of Translator and Marvin Etzioni, a founding member of Lone Justice.
