Ears Wide Open: Distant Cousins

What happens when three pedigreed songwriters/producers get together on a whim? Fun, apparently. Distant Cousins are the collision of Ami Kozak, Dov Rosenblatt and Duvid Swirsky, who’ve announced their presence with the release of their first single, the bluesy stomp “Raise It Up.” Kozak, a composer for advertising and TV, and Rosenblatt (formerly of the band Blue Fringe and now co-fronting the L.A. duo the Wellspring) were pals from their time on the East Coast. Swirsky is an Israeli rocker and co-founder of the band Moshav who had co-written an early song with Rosenblatt. The trio is making an EP, with Kozak producing, that is due later this year. In the meantime, the shout-along chorus of their initial single will have to do.
