This was bound to happen, we suppose. Steffaloo (aka Steph Thompson) seduced fans with little more than her emotive, airy vocals and spare guitar and ukulele parts on her 2012 full-length, “Would You Stay,” a beautifully fragile record that lays bare the heart of her songwriting. For her next act, Thompson goes full-on into the electronic legions who, to varying degrees and frequently to a fault, slather on production like face paint. Her new album “Heart Beats,” due Oct. 29 via Mush Records, sees her partnering with the likes of Chrome Sparks, Stumbleine, Sun Glitters, Slow Magic and Moon Bounce for an all-electronic release, a continuation of the collaborative spirit that has seen her featured on releases by xxyyxx, Cosmic Oceans and Spiderwebbed. Steffaloo also turns up on the new EP from L.A.’s Gangplans, the duo of Wargo and Tiger (of Black&). The new album’s first single, “Only Have Eyes,” is a Chrome Sparks number … Somehow I am wondering how the legendary composer Harry Warren felt in 1959 when his 1934 classic was remade using that era’s production.
