For several years, Tommy Dietrick of L.A. shoegaze stalwarts Sky Parade staged a weekend benefit at Pappy & Harriet’s called the Clean Air Clear Stars Festival. (Ah, good times.) This year the event has morphed into the Desert Stars Festival, and the news bulletin is that the two-night affair, going off this Friday and Saturday in Pioneertown, is free. The psych-rock-heavy lineup is headed up by David J of Bauhaus/Love & Rockets, and it also features L.A.’s the Hallucinations, San Francisco’s the Spyrals and Philadelphia’s purveyors of psych-folk Asteroid #4, along with Nate Ryan of the Black Angels (dba the Shine Brothers), the Strangers Family Band, the Bixby Knolls and Magic Mirror. Set times for Friday and Saturday here.
