Stream: Active Child, ‘Subtle’

Although “She Cut Me” was a nice slice of audio in anticipation of Active Child‘s new EP, “Rapor,” fans finally get an official single off the follow-up to his highly regarded debut “You Are All I See.” Written in a glass house, which also provided the namesake for the EP (“Ra” meaning sun and “Por” meaning house”), Pat Grossi drew inspiration from the naturally lit space around him as he collected his thoughts and memories from being on tour in support of his first album. While that featured Grossi’s flying falsetto dancing with his illuminative harp skills, this new tune titled “Subtle” is heavier on the ’80s synths. Hard-hitting beats seem to drown out any harp melodies, but featured pop vocals by Mikky Ekko (known for his duet with Rihanna on “Stay”) help build a textured chorus. Other guests on the EP include Ellie Goulding on the track “Silhouette.” (Goulding covered Grossi’s “Hanging On” on her album “Halcyon.”) Produced by Kevin Seaton (Major Lazer, Snoop Lion) and Nick Ruth (Mikky Ekko, Night Terrors of 1979), “Rapor” is slated for an Oct. 22 release via Vagrant Records.
