In the video clip for her breakthrough single “Losing You,” Solange was dancing in the streets of South Africa. In her latest music video, she and her sparkly shorts strut around in the dark at a flea market. For a song titled “Lovers In the Parking Lot,” you’d think there would be some canoodling in the video, but it seems that Solange and her fancy footwork are the only stars. As a child who studied dance and theater, it’s not a surprise that movement is a big part of her vibe – especially in a live setting. Back when Dev Hynes (who produced her “True” EP in its entirety) played bass with her, they were doing tandem dance moves at small shows. and later in their late-night TV appearances. Her off-kilter moves are funky, quirky and seductive, but not in the same way big sister Beyoncé is doing it. Solange has always had her own flavor when it comes to R&B; if she wants to dance alone with glow in the dark bows on top of her sneakers, she’s going to do it.
