The Men

Brooklyn quartet the Men are known for their brash behavior and rowdy performances on stage, but their repertoire is still impossible to pin down. Their latest album, “New Moon” was an unexpected follow-up to 2012’s raucous “Open Your Heart,” and the Men take their country roots even further on their “Campfire Songs” EP. Written around a crackling log fire during downtime while recording “New Moon,” the EP is strictly acoustic. “Campfire Songs” includes stripped-down versions of “I Saw Her Face” and “The Seed,” plus a plugged-in rendition of “Water Babies,” but also offers two brand new songs titled “Patience” and “Turn Your Color.” The latter is a droning expansive six-minute track with heavy percussion echoing throughout; you can catch a nonchalant saxophone in there somewhere too. It’s almost an instrumental track if one focuses on the spacey guitar loops and layers, and it’s definitely miles away from anything on their debut. “Campfire Songs” is out Oct. 15 via Sacred Bones.
