Ears Wide Open: Bonfire Beach

For Dexy Valentine, her new album as Bonfire Beach is not moonlighting; it’s more of taking care of unfinished business. Fronting the dream-pop outfit Magic Wands, Valentine plays an engaging romantic space queen. Now, along with some friends including bassist Bryan Nope, she’s revisited some music she conceived in her early days in Los Angeles – darker, hard-charging psychedelia that conjures up the troubled ghosts of the city’s past. The album “Lit” (out via Buddyhead Records on Dec. 17) sounds like something the Duke Spirit, the Raveonettes and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club might come up with after doing drugs in a Hollywood alley. So long, dreamy; hello, danger.
