Coachella lineup: The tease is on … Motorhead?

A few years ago, when the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival starting selling out no matter whom was booked, it took a lot of fun out of handicapping the lineup. Still, promoters Goldenvoice are fanning the flames of anticipation by posting in its social media video links to artists who ostensibly will play the two-weekend event, April 11-13 and 18-20.
And, by the way, Motorhead?
Yes, a link to the venerable headbangers’ “Ace of Spades” turned up on Coachella’s Facebook page today, joining the work of of the substanitally less iconic Bombino, Bonobo, Future Islands, Factory Floor, the Magician, the Glitch Mob and the Internet/Odd Future, none of whom were born yet when Lemmy Kilmister popped his first batch of amphetamines.
Are we to divine that these posts represent confirmations? A Goldenvoice representative declined to comment, saying only that the 2014 lineup would be announced “soon.”
Speculation is rampant that the likes of Arcade Fire and OutKast will top the bill, to be joined by the likes of Bastille, Neko Case, Jagwar Ma, Warpaint and the Pixies. We’ll know “soon” enough. Pre-sale tickets have sold out; there’s no date yet for general on-sale of weekend passes, which start at $349.
Dear KB,
Why should the number of tickets sold have anything to do with the thrills one gets by looking forward to and voraciously devouring the lineup once it’s released? Every year since 2001 I have looked forward to going through that lineup with the same attention and excitement that Navin R. Johnson displayed when he found his name in the phone book many years ago. For me, it’s all about who I dearly want to see make the list, the ones I’ve never heard of that I will soon be eagerly streaming and discussing with my camp-mates and that painfully long wait between the time the lineup is released and the set times where you discover that you a huge chunk of your hopes must be sacrificed in order to save the lucky few. If I run into you there you can count on me for a big sticky cup of Heineken and some of whatever I got stashed in my rucksack.

Your ‘rampant speculation’ list sounds like a typical week’s concerts here in L.A. 🙂
Oh man that photo.
