Strong options abound on your Thursday:
‣ Long-running electronic duo the Crystal Method, whose strong fifth album came out this week, rock the El Rey Theatre and turn over a new leaf – for the first time in the their two decades, Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland will perform with a live band tonight.
‣ The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy is out on a solo tour behind his recent covers EP “Colin Meloy Sings the Kinks;” he visits the Fonda Theatre supported by John Roderick (the Long Winters).
‣ Nashville rockers Moon Taxi headline the Troubadour behind their latest album “Mountains Beach Cities,” supported by Fortress Social Club and Cillie Barnes.
‣ Nightmare & the Cat heads up a strong local bill at the Bootleg Bar that features Carina Round, Fever the Ghost and the Peach Kings.
‣ Bonfire Beach – the new band fronted by Dexy Valentine of Magic Wands – makes its live debut at Loaded Hollywood.
‣New Zealand-bred, London-based Connan Mockasin [see this post] plays the Echo, supported by Dub Thompson and Liphemra.
‣ And XO, the new band featuring Jake and Jeff Turner of Say Anything, rocks the Satellite, supported by Barely Blind and Souvenirs.
