A trio with a robust music background, Zoë Kravitz, James Levy and Jimmy Giannopoulos met quite simply: as neighbors running into each other on the street. Now a random jam session has turned into Lolawolf and a self-titled EP, released on Feb. 4 via Innit Recordings. The track kicks off with glittering Biz Markie hip-hop beats for an instant hook leading into Kravitz’s flirtatious vocals. Crossing over ’80s electronica, R&B and indie-pop, this feel-good song about keeping your lover has clever lyrics and catchy beats. The Caribbean synth percussion interludes are no doubt inspired by the Bahamas, where the EP was recorded. Lolawolf is a refreshingly carefree amalgam of generations of music and the boundless synthesizer.
