Imagine this: Jack Antonoff is still writing songs you can’t get out of your head, even if there may be a little frowning man on your shoulder imploring you to ignore them and move on. Antonoff, the fun.-ster and co-writer of the hits “We Are Young” and “Some Nights” whose work in Steel Train remains underrated to this day, has embarked on a project called Bleachers. The first single “I Wanna Get Better” sounds like it emerged from a clamorous ’80s dance party, hair mussed and ego in question. Antonoff explains on Bleachers’ website that he’s been working on the project for a year and a half “in bizarre and un-ideal circumstances – on a world tour. … Moments I should have been sleeping were spent in the studio. ‘I Wanna Get Better’ for example was [recorded] in Sweden, Malaysia, New Zealand and NYC.” A full-length in en route this spring on RCA, featuring producer John Hill (Jay-Z, Empire of the Sun, M.I.A.), Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode, Yaz, Erasure) and other collaborators.
