After last July’s one-off single “Bob Seger,†Minneapolis’ perennial hip-hop duo Atmosphere are back with their eighth full-length album “Southsiders,†their first since 2011’s “The Family Sign.†It was recorded in Oakland and their hometown, and is set to be introspective and “a very detailed look at my life,” according to rapper Slug. Its first single is “Bitter,†where he sounds off on the subject in his signature sarcasm and wit, dropping lines like, “Everything used to be so good then / Now it seems like you’re mad at my footprints / I’m only trying to scribble in the book, man / It’s not my fault that y’all couldn’t,†over the 90s west coast bounce of Ant’s production. The 15-track “Southsiders,†also featuring songs titled “Kanye West†and “Let Me Know That You Know What You Want Now,†is out on May 6 via Rhymesayers.
