Following the release of a collaborative EP each of the last three years (“Shame,” “Thuggin’” and “Deeper,” chronologically), Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are set to put out their long-anticipated full-length album “Piñata” next week, with 17 tracks featuring guest verses from a plethora of talent, including Ab-Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Casey Veggies, Danny Brown, Raekwon, Scarface, and more. Gibbs describes “Piñata” as “a gangster Blaxploitation film on wax,” and its fourth single “Robes” sounds the part. In classic Madlib fashion, the track samples and reworks Lenny White’s 1977 jazzy-soul cut “Sweet Dreamer,” and has Earl Sweatshirt and Domo Genesis trading intricate verses with Gibbs. “Piñata” is out on March 18 via Madlib Invazion.
