Ears Wide Open: Magic Bronson

The temptation here is to just riff on the name [maybe these guys have seen this blogger’s jump shot?], but we’ll just keep it about the music. Magic Bronson is an electronic duo, a collaboration between Michael Nicastro and Matthew Lieberman. Last year’s “Nor’easter” EP displayed their moves: dirty (or at least slightly smudged) production, ’80s dancefloor beats and lyrical blasts on relationships, jobs, obsessions and everything else that sends to diving for a beer at the end of the day, or maybe the middle of it. Now aligned with War Cry Records, Magic Bronson this week released two new singles, “Shivers” and “Golden,” that, owing to their wonky effects, suggest that everybody at their dance party might not be having a good time. Y’know, so find that person who’s sitting alone in corner and drag them into the scrum. Also: We hope that Magic Bronson has cooler T-shirts than Action Bronson.
