Coachella 2014: The Bots, off to a perfect start

Who: The Bots at the Outdoor Theatre
In 3 or Fewer Words: Straight outta Glendale
Memorable Because: At turns scratchy and shreddy and catchy, the teenage two-piece of brothers Mikaiah and Anaiah Lei overcame the noonday heat and a spate of guitar problems to kick things off in winning fashion. The siblings strip things down the very basics, with singer-guitarist Mikaiah verging on overdrive but never quite going there and drummer Anaiah copping to the fact that some of their stuff is inspired by horror flicks. Mikaiah sounded like a Coachella vet at the end, though: “Party hard,” he advised. “But not too hard.”
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was Still at Breakfast: It’s a great feeling to witness a young band enjoying their moment.
