Coachella 2014: Big Gigantic, pumping the band

Who: Big Gigantic in the Sahara Tent
In 3 or Fewer Words: Know the drill
Memorable Because: Big Gigantic makes extra-large electronic music supplemented by (insert gasp from rave kids here) live saxophone and drumming. It’s the kind of thing some brass nerd might conceive after his school cuts the music budget and drops the band program. Sax player/producer Dominic Lalli and drummer Jeremy Salken have a next-level stage show too, but the duo pulled off something special for their bangin’ set in the Sahara Tent. The Colorado-based group invited 34 members of Indio’s Shadow Hills High School Marching Band to join in, and it felt pretty special. They marched onstage early in the set and ripped through Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar” and then returned for the finale, bumping with their brass and earning a thunderous ovation from the quick-filling tent, as fans raced over after Calvin Harris’ set ended. We did note that as dorky as band uniforms sometimes look, Shadow Hills’ made them the best-dressed people in the Sahara.
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was At Lana Del Rey: Please fill me in on how that new song was – but please, write it like Hipster Runoff.
