Coachella 2014: Jhene Aiko, and then Drake too

Who:Â Jhene Aiko in Gobi tent
In 3 or Fewer Words:Â Drake came out
Memorable Because:Â Jhene Aiko’s laid-back yet sultry style has earned the singer-rapper many fans over the years, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s easy on the eyes either. However, her set inside the Gobi Tent was only about three-quarters full as she sashayed across the stage in a flowing (and revealing) white number. She was up against Disclosure, Motorhead and Arcade Fire (they were slotted on the main stage halfway into her set) after all, but then one voice changed all of that. The moment Drake started his verse on “From Time,” screams erupted, and fans bum-rushed the stage to get a closer glimpse or photo of the rapper also making his Coachella debut. (Childish Gambino did not quite get this response when he appeared to start the set.) Half the crowd was up in the air on someone else’s shoulders and the sea of phones in the air made it seem a bit surreal. Aiko performed one last song after Drake left the stage, but it was her guests that made her set worth any of your time.
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was At Arcade Fire: No VIP nearby, no disses here.
