Above: That’s the video for “Simple and Sure,” the first single off the new album from indie-poppers the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. “Days of Abandon,” the band’s third album, is out next week, and they have a date Wednesday at the Troubadour.

Our staff picks of the week:

@KRBronson recommends: finding some sort of arbiter to work out our dilemma for Saturday night. If you’re a fan of psych-rock, you won’t want to miss the Brian Jonestown Massacre’s return to L.A. at the Wiltern that night – Anton Newcombe and gang just headlined the Austin Psych Fest this weekend, after all. Then again, there’s the third annual LA Psych Fest at the Bootleg on Saturday, with three rooms of mind-expanding music including the high recommended Rose Windows, Kikagaku Moyo, Jeffertitti’s Nile, the Spyrals and Drab Majesty, among others. Trip out accordingly.

@Seraphina_L recommends: The new album from Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna was produced by Robin Hannibal (one-half of Rhye and Quadron), and everything about it is easy on the ears, from the lithe melodies to her smooth vocals. It’s titled “Nocturnal,” and Yuna will showcase the material from it on Thursday at the Troubadour.
