Video: Strange Talk, ‘Young Hearts’

“We’re young hearts / Look at us go / All we really need is a stereo,” sings lead vocalist Stephen Docker of Australian synth-pop band Strange Talk. Whether or not those lyrics are 100% believable, the youthful mentality there is admirable. Docker, Girard Sidhu, Travis Constable and Gillian Gregory have quickly used that effervescent energy to find themselves next to Cut Copy and Passion Pit in many personal music libraries within the last year. Strange Talk’s debut “Cast Away†is an obvious contender for the album of the summer among glow-stick connoisseurs with its lighthearted riffs and pro-dance melodies, but it’s also got a hint of grandeur which often verges on M83-like build-ups. With Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix) and Eliot James (Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club) having lent a hand in mixing, it makes sense. However, the credit can’t be completely turned away from the Melbourne-based band that self-produced the record as well. Either way, these four lads sound like they’re proud of living in the moment. “Cast Away†is out now via Wind Up Records.
