The Church on York scrambles to relocate shows after City of Los Angeles denies live music permitting

The Church on York’s bid to become a legit music venue took a hit on Friday when the City of Los Angeles denied the fledgling venue its requests for permits to stage live shows. The Los Angeles Times’ Todd Martens has all the details here, including owner/promoter Graeme Flegenheimer’s vow to fight on. Tonight’s show featuring the Cave Singers – one of many on the Highland Park venue’s upcoming calendar – has been moved to the Center for the Arts Eagle Rock, and Flegenheimer told The Times he is working with other venues to relocate more shows.
So fucking stupid.
What is the city’s rationale? Admittedly, it is located within a residential district but I doubt that the noise was an issue. Maybe the people snagging local’s parking spaces. Once wonders if it could just be declared an actual Church again and the music be part of the “church service” if they would have to allow it!!
Wow so this whole time they have been booking shows, and have shows all without permits??? That’s insane. Their poor neighbors. I’d be pissed if I was them. I’m a regular concert goer but come on you are in a residential neighborhood!!! Get permits and permission like all the other venues. I don’t feel sorry for the venue, just for the booked bands.
That’s pretty crazy. I think this happens a lot generally in the music industry.
LA sucks
Such a shame… What a waste.
