The Church on York gives up the fight

The Church on York, the fledgling DIY music and arts venue that ran afoul of the City of Los Angeles’ permitting regulations, is closing after almost a year of operation. A statement on the venue’s Facebook page reads, in part:
“We have hit some severe roadblocks that have forced us to close our doors for good. We are so indebted to all those who helped us out along the way. We deeply appreciate the support we’ve had from the music, film and visual art community that have helped us mature and grow. Thank you to all the fans who came to all of our events and hopefully had as great a time as we did. … Thank you to all our staff, investors and partners who have been patient and supportive since our first day in.”
The Church on York’s events have been either canceled or moved to other venues, including tonight’s show with Heaven (at the Ham & Eggs Tavern) and Saturday’s show featuring Jandek (at the Echo). See the venue’s Twitter feed for more information about relocated shows.
