Video: Foxing, ‘Rory’

“I swear that I am a good man / So why don’t you love me back?” implores Foxing‘s lead singer Conor Murphy. The lyric is from “Rory,” the emotional centerpiece of their album “The Albatross;” it starts out with just a few naked piano chords but builds into a waltz and finally into an eruption of horns and strings. These St. Louis boys can be considered a bit emo, but the catharsis here is an anchor for the band’s debut full-length. The balance between serenity and explosion is captured well by the band’s self-directed video which follows a boy who is hunted down by females; it’s animalistic for certain reasons, but it’s also eerie and beautiful. Foxing’s “The Albatross” is out now via Triple Crown Records.
