Stream: Dot Hacker, ‘Elevator’

Oh, the vagaries of making music around a “day job.” Of course, guitarist Josh Klinghoffer’s day job is making music – only with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, leaving his personal passion project, Dot Hacker, relegated to filling in the cracks in his schedule. Klinghoffer, joined by Clint Walsh, Jonathan Hischke and Eric Gardner, has a big batch of music recorded as a follow-up to their 2012 debut, “Inhibition.” And today they announced plans to give the world all of it – two albums’ worth. The first, “How’s Your Process? (Work),†will be out July 1, with “How’s Your Process? (Play)†to follow in the fall. Klinghoffer’s duties with RHCP will prohibit Dot Hacker from touring, but the spaced-out tune “Elevator” (as opposed to the big guitar blasts of the song they released in April, “Whatever You Want,”) gives you an idea of the quarter’s estimable range. The song “Memory” was the B-side of the 7-inch Dot Hacker released on Record Store Day; it will also appear on the album.
