Hailing from the so-small town of Baraboo, Wis., six high school friends relocated to Madison to find fulfillment in music together and became PHOX. After a couple years of cohabiting, creating home videos (a fun series you can watch on YouTube), and recording music in their bedroom, they attracted the interest of producer, Brian Joseph (The Fray, Bon Iver). The septet’s whimsically sweet folk-pop has the sweeping, gentle vocals of Feist and the precise, cradling arrangements of Volcano Choir. Their first single, “Slow Motion”, shows off their amicable nature with buoyant and shimmering melodies for a refreshing affirmation of artistic integrity. Their self-titled debut, “PHOX” is out today.
