It’s been about 2 1/2 years since Delta Spirit released its third album, a self-titled affair that completed the SoCal-bred quintet’s transformation from folk band to rock band. That time period also saw Delta Spirit pack its gear and relocate to New York – just in time, it turned out, for Superstorm Sandy to wreak havoc on the studio the band had constructed in Greenpoint. The fivesome (Matt Vasquez, Will McLaren, Jon Jameson, Kelly Winrich and Brandon Young) have regrouped to make their fourth album “Into the Wide,” due Sept. 9 via Dualtone Records. Conceived in their dank Brooklyn studio and recorded in Atlanta with producer Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter), “Into the Wide” reflects some dark times, Vasquez told Esquire magazine. But you’d never know it from the first single “From Now On,” an urgent bit of popgazing that, Vasquez sounds surprised to admit, sounds a little like My Bloody Valentine. The tune is one of three immediate downloads fans get with a pre-order of the album.
