The Twilight Concert Series returned to the Santa Monica Pier in a big way Thursday night, with indie-pop ensemble Cults and indie-rockers James Supercave thrilling a huge crowd on an idyllic night at the beach. It was something of a homecoming show for singer Madeline Follin of New York-based Cults (she grew up in Orange County), and the band played a strong set with songs from last year’s sophomore album “Static,” as well as their 2011 debut. James Supercave opened the show, rocking songs from their first EP “The Afternoon” and forthcoming full-length. The show was the first of 10 consecutive Thursdays of free concerts on the beach; the series continues next Thursday with Yuna and King.
