“We drove three hours to see you!” a fan shouted at Gardens & Villa on Friday night, eliciting a smile from frontman Chris Lynch. “I walked!” somebody else shouted. The Santa Barbara-bred quintet proved worth the journey, no matter how long, in their 75-minute set at the Figat7th Downtown Festival. The free, all-ages night of music at the downtown retail center was the fourth in a six-Friday series. With their wood flutes in tow, Gardens & Villa, prepping for a trip to Outside Lands this weekend, focused heavily on material from their sophomore album “Dunes,” sprinkling in songs from 2011’s debut and a Fleetwood Mac cover. Opening the night was White Hinterland, the solo project of Massachusetts’ Casey Dienel, whose array of keyboards and gadgetry supported her heady live-looping. White Hinterland will be back in L.A. on Oct. 21 to open for Wildcat! Wildcat! at the El Rey Theatre. Figat7th continues with Fool’s Gold headlining on Aug. 15 and the Belle Brigade on Aug. 22.
