If you were one of the lucky ones to catch the Unicorns open for Arcade Fire at the Forum last month, then the joy of hearing songs from the Montreal-based band’s albums “Unicorns Are People Too” and the critically lauded “Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone?” must have been a surreal blast from the past. (If you weren’t one of the lucky ones, maybe you caught them in New York with Arcade Fire or you’ve bought a ticket for their last-ever show at Metropolis?) Although Nicholas Thorburn and Alden Penner both went on to release music under new monikers (Thorburn with fellow Unicorns member Jamie Thompson as Th’ Corn Gangg and later as Islands; Penner as Clues), seeing the two as the Unicorns live one last time is a chance to remember the wonky years in indie rock music when pop was schizophrenic yet lovable. Now the Flaming Lips remain the kings of that realm, but Unicorns fan can relish in the fact that the duo has shared a bonus track from “Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone?” Not previously released, “Let Me Sleep” is one of four extra tracks from the album’s digital reissue, and is yet another an off-kilter, tempo-ADD tune with lyrics simply about a lack of sleep.
