L.A.-based trio Distant Cousins have been making bank placing their songs in film, TV shows and advertisements, which is not bad for an effort that began as a side project featuring three songwriters who’d done pretty well in their own right, Ami Kozak, Dov Rosenblatt and Duvid Swirsky. They came on the radar a year ago with the infectious stomp “Raise It Up,” and recently their new single “On My Way” was featured in a major retailer’s campaign. Separately, says Rosenblatt, a French filmmaker named Loïc Guilpain reached out to the band and asked if he could make a video for “On My Way.” And voilà . Besides having the ending song in the forthcoming film “This Is Where I Leave You,” Distant Cousins are releasing a five-song EP of their folk-cum-bluegrass-Americana (RIYL: The Lumineers, et al), and as the song “Fly Away” attests, these fellows can harmonize.
