Video: Cymbals Eat Guitars, ‘Laramie’

There’s plenty of falsetto in R&B and pop music these days, but the pure and poignant vocal styling is rarely paired with hard rock or shoegaze anymore. Cymbals Eat Guitars, the NYC quartet who just released the gorgeous “LOSE” in August, takes those floating vocals and drapes them over an ocean of reverb, psychedelic guitars and driving percussion to give the ear drums a tidal wave of texture and melody. Director Milton Ladd (who’s done videos for Zambri and Hooray For Earth) has taken that fluidity and given the band’s song “Laramie” a dreamy, ocean-infused look by taking live performance shots and making them one with images of the beach and colorful geometric shapes. It definitely highlights the playfulness and impressive range vocalist Joseph D’Agostino and band members Andrew Dole, Matt Whipple and Brian Hamilton all have as a band. “LOSE,” which the band dedicated to Benjamin High, a friend and musical collaborator they lost seven years ago, is out now via Barsuk.
