Above:Â That’s Augustines‘ video for “Weary Eyes.” The Brooklyn band formerly known as We Are Augustines stops by the Troubadour on Wednesday in support of their self-titled sophomore album (out now via Votiv).
Our staff picks of the week:
@KRBronson recommends: Young guitar god Blake Mills releases his sophomore album “Heigh Ho” this week – it’s streaming over here – and headlines the El Rey Theatre on Thursday night. Which makes for a tough Thursday night decision, since that’s the night Neutral Milk Hotel, the Breeders and Daniel Johnston play the Hollywood Bowl and the night up-and-coming siren Meg Myers headlines the Echo. Hard to go wrong. And on Saturday afternoon, it’s the free and all-ages Tarfest, with Hunter Hunted, the Moth & the Flame, DWNTWN, Tapioca and the Flea and the Dead Ships.
@Seraphina_L recommends: We inch closer and closer to Rocktober, so there are plenty of shows to attend if you didn’t get tickets to all three sold-out Karen O shows inside the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever (on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday — don’t forget she’s playing an in-store at Amoeba on Tuesday, too). You’ve got Daedelus celebrating a new album at Fifty Seven on Tuesday, Buzzcocks at the Fonda on Wednesday, Neutral Milk Hotel (and the Breeders!) at Hollywood Bowl on Thursday, and Jungle plays the Fonda while Tokimonsta and Made In Heights take on the El Rey Theatre on Friday.
