Although 20-year-old Londoner Ella Eyre isn’t a household name yet in the U.S., her massive online following might lead to you think it’s only a matter of time. With Adele is taking some well-deserved time off, there might be an opening for a new, powerful female voice in the modern soul-pop world, and on fierce tracks like her new single “Comeback” and her slower ballads such as “Bullet For You,” she makes a case for herself. She’s not one to play the victim in a relationship either, as she displays so fervently on “Comeback” (which she wrote when she was only 17): “We’ve all been played / we’ve all been hurt / just take the pain / let that motherf*cker burn / you will find in time, that they always come back.” Her full-length debut is due next spring.
