Ears Wide Open: Taste Nasa

Not to get too hung up on nomenclature, but there’s something sexy about the sound of “SDM” (that’s Soft Dance Music), the descriptor used by the artist going by the name Taste Nasa. It’s all disco, of course, and the new single “I’d Like to Be Your Girl” – owning the same homoerotic feel as White Town’s classic “Your Woman,” handclaps and all – suggests those long nights in the 1980s when the dance floor was just emptying. Taste Nasa is the solo venture of L.A.-based New Zealander Leroy Clampitt, who’s been playing bass with fellow Kiwi Sam McCarthy in Strange Babes and whose past lives include fronting the indie-pop bands the Good Fun and Bangladesh in his home country. With one EP, “No Questions Asked,” under his belt, Big Taste (as he is known to his friends) is working on a follow-up. Next dance?
