Ears Wide Open: Vicious Kicks

Who knew work could sound so much like a party? The first single from L.A. duo Vicious Kicks is nothing if not relatable. “No time for playin’ / no time for sleep / I’m a workaholic / and I do what I need,” cries the chorus in “Workaholic.” Then there’s the groove, a Spandex-ready rewind to the days of disco-funk garnished with electronic effects. The song is the first taste of “Mirror Minds,” a four-song EP due early next year from the songwriting and production twosome of Nzo Tiano and Ray Giron. Sounds like a party waiting to happen, right? Warm up the falsetto, and work.
