Update from the funkosphere: NYC party animals Spirit Animal released a new single this week (in time for their arrival tonight in L.A.), and if there’s such a thing as next-gen boogie, these guys are going for it. “Party in the Back” is the latest from vocalist Steve Cooper (fka the Gray Kid), guitarist Cal Stamp, bassist Paul Michel and drummer Ronen Evron, who’ve spent the past couple of years mashing together and updating the sounds of funk, rock and hip-hop. You can almost smell the sweat on the dance floor here … War and Sly with a Wild Cherry on top while these white boys play that funky music.
